All profits from the event will benefit Xquisite. \n12:15 pm – Short program featuring Carson City District Attorney and Candidate for Carson City Justice of the Peace Garrit Pruyt\, who will speak on what his office has seen surrounding sexual assault here in Carson City and how they actively combat it. \nDenim Swap Details:\nGently used denim (jeans\, jackets\, etc.) may be dropped off at Cellar 8 Wine Bar & Press Café located at 408 N. Carson Street\, Carson City NV 89701 during business hours: April 20th – April 27th \nSneaker Drive – gently used sneakers – size 7 to 10 women’s will be received to donate to sex trafficking victim who have been recovered here in Northern Nevada. Sneakers will be collected at the event. \nEvent History:\nThe history of Denim Day dates to 1997 in Italy\, when an 18-year-old girl was raped by her 45-year-old driving instructor\, who was later convicted and sentenced to jail. The perpetrator appealed the sentence\, and his case made it to the Italian Supreme Court where the case was overturned. The instructor was released\, and the Head Judge released a statement arguing that “because she wore tight jeans\,” he assumed that she must have helped him remove her jeans and\, therefore\, consented. \nEnraged by the verdict\, the women in the Italian Parliament launched into immediate action and protested by wearing jeans on the steps of the Italian Parliament building. This was the beginning of what has become a worldwide movement to wear jeans as a visible means of protest against misconceptions that surround sexual assault.
